the omnibus band was founded by jarda zajpt and petr dikan in 1979 in czechoslovakia. having met at the electronic high school, electronics was their field of expertise. over time, petr dikan constructed several sound devices such as the Šílený fridrich (Šf, crazy frederick) keyboard and the vsd (všude samý dráty/wires everywhere) generator which he operated during the recordings and also at concerts. at that time, heavily influenced by brian eno and robert fripp from the king crimson band, jarda zajpt played the guitars, using all kinds of effects, pre-recorded tapes, and one or more interconnected tape recorders. the first record, “israels”, was produced between 1980 and 1982. in 1985, jarda zajpt swapped a guitar for a keyboard and a new member arrived – pavel zvolenský – who programmed and played the automatic percussions. martin bauer, playing the bass guitar, completed the trio. they have produced a second album, “rhythmus”, in this assembly. remastered from unreleased tape recordings. this is the first release in the framework of the project jupiter 08 – archeology of the slavic electronic sound.

what happens when you bring together two percussionists who are well-established in the electronic music scene and commission them to produce four tracks exclusively with percussion instruments-with the only requirement being not to deliver any overtly thought-out nerd music? the answer has been provided by sven kacirek and thomas klein on this release.

in his biography, arjuna schiks is described as a producer with an ability to bring the human out of the machine, unleashing our emotions. after listening to doha , we were affected in the same way. simply put, his music makes us feel good. melodic accents and danceable rhythms blend in purposeful unison, and it is with the doha ep that arjuna will join wir. he has appeared on gem records, manual music, traum, and trapez, with original eps, and has recently graced a number of labels with remixes, leaving his signature on each ep. his production output is impressive, and like most greats, his sound continues to grow and develop with each studio session. arjuna resides in amsterdam, where he has developed a distinct and solid sound, and a loyal fan base. he performs live close to every weekend all over holland. we invited arjuna to come and perform as the special guest at our treibstoff 14.5 year anniversary party for his first ever performance on german soil. his set was received with smiling faces and hands in the air, coming from the brimming dance floor of colognes gewölbe, a warm welcome to say the least. we had the pleasure of spending some time together after the event, and his character is just like his music. he is a cheerful and passionate person with a bright sense of humor and we are elated to welcome him to wir. keep your ears open, for there is more to come..

>life is the only drug i wont ever give up<. this is probably the most life-affirming claim ever forwarded by ware- labelboss matthias schaffhäuser and its made to fit the party. and as hes being the guest on a very special label hes going all the way. totally in accordance with the wir-label-philosophy, the title track shows off lots of modern producing skills, never sticking to just one rigid idea but coming along with a whole bunch of attitudes. pop-induced vocals are artfully woven into minimal beats, housy strokes meet sound concrète, and the whole combines to one neverending track, leaving the elitist style ghetto behind and delivering itself to the pulsating life outside, leading to a truly beautiful work clearly thats one hell of a challenge for every remixer, but lovable atom smahing mathias kaden is the right man at the right place, as he knows how to deal with emotional content under the influence of the contemporary raw. his eleven-minute-opus tightens, focalizes, piles and moves around the original material, but without betraying its spirit. this remix seems larger than life but still maddingly gripping and you get the overwhelming impression that here every angle leads to another, every bit communicating. its a nation under the groove, all in one track, and its here to be heard

der erste track der ep ist ein prog-lastiges requiem, durchzogen von verzerrten synthies und einer perkussiven sanftheit, die dazu einlädt, direkt auf die tanzfläche zu gehen. die klangliche agilität von -wandt uncorked- wird von einer treibenden energie umrahmt, die nur noch mehr anschwillt, wenn man sich bewegt und schicht für schicht einen neuen rhythmus bietet. gottesfuß- bietet verträumte synthies mit anklängen an die underworld-Ära von -a hundred days off- und entwickelt sich zu einem ausufernden, sexy-verrückten fünfminütigen glücksgefühl. der zweite track von niklas baut sich mit einem vertrauten vibrato und einem gemütlichen bass auf und ist die perfekte kulisse für dancefloor-momente und verliebte feierabende. die b-seite der aktuellen ep von wandt gleitet durch alle nur denkbaren subaquatischen gefilde. geschmeidige breaks gehen gleichmäßig in unzählige unterwasser-drones und/oder außerirdische schreie über und bilden eine raffinierte klanglandschaft, die wandts fähigkeiten als perkussionist unterstreicht.

eine geheimnisvolle veröffentlichung, nicht nur wegen ihres einzigartigen expressiven stils, sondern auch, weil nicht einmal bekannt ist, wann sie ursprünglich aufgenommen wurde, geschweige denn, wann sie veröffentlicht wurde. laut dem eigentümer des gemeinnützigen studio piccolo, vincent bruley, könnte es in den 70er jahren aufgenommen und schließlich anfang der 90er jahre veröffentlicht worden sein, also irgendwann während der zeit, in der nilton castro in paris musik für zeitgenössische tanzkurse machte (die oft von seiner frau geleitet wurden). dieses album war ursprünglich für die begleitung von tänzern im unterricht gedacht, wobei der schwerpunkt auf rhythmus und koordination lag.

hier ist die zweite veröffentlichung auf silvi, aya ep von head honcho roy brizman. diesmal präsentiert er drei seiner produktionen, die gekonnt emotionen und rhythmus miteinander verbinden.

nach seinen veröffentlichungen auf lurid music und neubau ist western paradox die dritte vinyl-veröffentlichung von ynv. jeder track erforscht einen bestimmten rhythmus mit der absicht, das richtige muster zu finden, um uns in einen angenehmen trancezustand zu versetzen.

ist ihnen aufgefallen, dass in der westlichen musik die lineare zeit im vordergrund steht? die melodie ist eine kontinuierliche abfolge von klängen. harmonie und rhythmus folgen einer progression vom anfang über den höhepunkt bis zur auflösung. ist es möglich, eine kunst zu schaffen, die auf nicht-linearer zeit basiert? können wir nicht-lineare zeit überhaupt erleben?

land of the drums ist eine einzigartige mischung aus natürlichen tiergeräuschen im rhythmus und einem treibenden dance percussion beat. der produzent neftali santiago (ehemaliger drummer von mandrill) war 1980 ein sample-pionier. alle tiergeräusche wurden mit einem melotron (erster sampler mit analogen tapeloops) eingespielt. die single war nur als promo erhältlich und erregte in holland viel aufmerksamkeit, z.b. als radiosong in der legendären radiosendung soul show mit ferry maat. die promo-exemplare werden wegen der sammelleidenschaft der djs für bis zu 85 dollar pro stück verkauft. heutzutage gibt es immer noch eine nachfrage nach der platte.

air ist eine atmosphärische und mehrdeutige sammlung von musik, die manchmal rhythmus- und sounddesigngetrieben ist, sich aber hauptsächlich an den heimischen hörer mit seinen malerischen melodien und stimmungen richtet.

auf der a-seite klaut brako samples und wirbelt sie auf einem hugger-mugger-breakbeat durcheinander. auf der anderen seite ist die polizei hinter ihm her und versucht, das chaos aufzuräumen, während sie ihn auf einem geraden rhythmus jagt.

er klingt eher nach traditionellem goa-trance, ist es aber nicht... mit einem rhythmus um die 140 bpm, wie der eröffnungstrack, tritt er mit einer robusten bassline die clubtüren ein, verzaubert den kultivierten tänzer mit seinen eigentümlichen melodien und lässt die puristen völlig kalt, die auf eine zigarette ausweichen. denn wer schert sich schon um puristen, oder?

stockholms techno-koryphäe pär grindvik und berlins sensation sylvie maziarz vereinen die kräfte auf ihrer ersten kollaboration, der -before we run- ep auf second state. gleich zu beginn heizen bedrohlich klingende, hypnotische glocken und ein scheppernder bass auf -bullet tower- die stimmung an. es folgt der titeltrack mit wilder kick und einem erdrückt-hysterischen vocal, synths wirbeln durch, bevor sie wieder vom überwältigen rhythmus durchbrochen werden. -utopia- ist ein von ungewöhnlich-verkopfter perkussion, langgezogenen flächen und hektischen synths angetriebener track. die ep endet mit -circles-, einer trancigen odyssee, die uns einblicke in die unterwelt gibt.

sleepless eröffnet die tänze mit einem 4/4-rhythmus, der räumliche atmosphären und house-vibes vereint. mental atmosphere unterbricht sie dann und bringt das label mit federnder basslinie zu seinen elektro-einflüssen zurück.

b-seiten beginnen mit space mob, einer dunklen reise, die sich zu etwas entwickelt, das sie direkt in reedale rises zerbrochenes land zurückbringt, dem amen break! der letzte track ist simbas joy, der sanfte melodien und garagenhafte rhythmen zusammenstellt, keine narbe erlaubt!

exzellente werkschau der bossa nova-phase von stan getz, einem der größten saxofonisten des jazz. während er mit kompositionen wie -early autumn- (1948) und -long island sound- (1949) zu einem aushängeschild des cool jazz wurde, liess er sich anfang der 1960er jahre vom bossa nova inspirieren, nahm spirit und rhythmus dieser ausserweltlichen neuen musik auf und erschuf seine eigene, sehr elegante prägung, die einen massgeblichen einfluss auf weitere musikergenerationen haben sollte.
